May 16 to Sept 1\, 2026\nWe are proud to participate in the national Blue Star Museums program\, offering free admission to the museum to all active duty military families from May 16 to September 1\, 2025. \nThis nationwide Blue Star Museums program is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts\, Blue Star Families\, the Department of Defense\, and museums like our across America. \nActive duty service members from the Air Force\, Army\, Coast Guard\, Marine Corps\, Navy\, Space Force\, as well as members of the Reserves\, National Guard\, U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps\, and NOAA Commissioned Corps\, along with up to five family members\, are eligible for free admission by presenting appropriate identification. \nAccepted forms of ID include the Geneva Convention common access card (CAC)\, DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID)\, DD Form 1173-1 ID card\, or the Next Generation Uniformed Services (Real) ID card. \nWe are proud to be the only museum in Rowan County to take part in this program. No registration is required. Just pay admission to the museum at the door when you arrive (cash or card).  \nAdmission ranges from $5 to $10 per person. It’s a huge source of annual support to our nonprofit! \nAbout This Event: \n\nEnjoy a special PowerPoint presentation from presenter Les Albers\, a military veteran\, historical interpreter\, and re-enactor.\nLes will use a display of thirteen 12-inch GI Joe figures to trace the Black military experience from 1778 through 2003.\nEach GI Joe figure represents a chapter in American history.\nYou’ll learn the names and stories of real Black servicemen and servicewomen\, the military conflicts in which they served\, and the evolution of military uniforms across multiple centuries.\nYou’ll also learn the historical significance of Black GI Joe figures with a spotlight on their development between 1965 and 1997.\nAppropriate for all ages.\nOffered in-person only (though we hope to replicate as an online experience in the future!)

Join our email list to hear from us when registration opens for this event: https://ncmdtm.org/#modal-hojb9c2m85ut \nEvent details from Minireflections Miniature Club:\n\nOur project is a 1/2″ modern “Tiny House” with a main floor living area/kitchen/bath and a second floor bedroom loft\, deck and “garden”.\nWe want everyone to personalize their project so we are offering windows and door materials but you can decide the arrangement/placement of these items.\nCost for the day will include lunch and space rental along with a special souvenir and all materials needed for the basic project.\nRegistration will be open to 25 participants  plus Minireflections club members.
