May 16 to Sept 1\, 2026\nWe are proud to participate in the national Blue Star Museums program\, offering free admission to the museum to all active duty military families from May 16 to September 1\, 2025. \nThis nationwide Blue Star Museums program is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts\, Blue Star Families\, the Department of Defense\, and museums like our across America. \nActive duty service members from the Air Force\, Army\, Coast Guard\, Marine Corps\, Navy\, Space Force\, as well as members of the Reserves\, National Guard\, U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps\, and NOAA Commissioned Corps\, along with up to five family members\, are eligible for free admission by presenting appropriate identification. \nAccepted forms of ID include the Geneva Convention common access card (CAC)\, DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID)\, DD Form 1173-1 ID card\, or the Next Generation Uniformed Services (Real) ID card. \nWe are proud to be the only museum in Rowan County to take part in this program. It’s a huge source of annual support to our nonprofit! \nAbout This Event: \n\nEnjoy a special PowerPoint presentation from presenter Les Albers\, a military veteran\, historical interpreter\, and re-enactor.\nLes will use a display of thirteen 12-inch GI Joe figures to trace the Black military experience from 1778 through 2003.\nEach GI Joe figure represents a chapter in American history.\nYou’ll learn the names and stories of real Black servicemen and servicewomen\, the military conflicts in which they served\, and the evolution of military uniforms across multiple centuries.\nYou’ll also learn the historical significance of Black GI Joe figures with a spotlight on their development between 1965 and 1997.\nAppropriate for all ages.\nOffered in-person only (though we hope to replicate as an online experience in the future!)

All are welcome. \nImagine being in a room full of people who love dolls as much as you do… \nYou will enjoy a sit-down hearty lunch at a table full of fellow doll-lovers and collectors as you listen to engaging presentations on dolls and dollmaking. Make new dolly friends and enjoy and informative and joyful afternoon! \nYou’ll get free goodies and have a chance to participate in a silent auction\, raffle\, and door prize drawings. \nWhen the luncheon ends\, you’ll have the chance to take a trip over to our doll & toy museum (optional) and continue socializing with the new friends you’ve met. \nDate & Location:\nSaturday\, September 12 \n9:30 am to 3 pm \nAt Trinity Oaks at 728 Klumac Rd\, Salisbury\, NC 28144 \n(The event location is a 10-minute drive away from the museum.) \nFriday Meetup at the Museum: \nThe day before the luncheon on Friday\, September  11\, the museum will stay open for an extra hour for socializing\, opening at 10 am and closing at 5 pm. \nCost & Registration:\nRegistration is required. \nTickets are $90. \n(Please note: our food cost increased in 2026\, which is why tickets have gone up in cost $5 this year. We are so bear-y grateful for the support you have given our museum to grow our impact in the community and our capacity to share the love\, history & legacy of dolls\, toys\, trains\, and miniatures! \nAmy Dawn Morris is the reason our museum exists. She lived with a form of spinal muscular atrophy called Werdnig Hoffmann’s Disease\, and though she used a wheelchair\, she was unstoppable. Through dolls\, Amy and her sister\, Beth\, escaped into worlds where she could swim with dolphins\, cheer\, dance\, ride horses\, and be anything she dreamed. \nTo Amy\, dolls were more than toys: they were symbols of adventure\, joy\, peace\, and possibility.
